PinkNotes® Web Server

Postby AlphaMedia » Mon Sep 15, 2008 12:25 pm

Did you know you can access your PinkNotes® even when you're not a computer with the PinkNotes® Client software installed on it? The PinkNotes® Web Server can be used by your cell phone / mobile device, your Mac, Linux computer, or a public PC to access your PinkNotes®.

Find your Master IP Address

* Login to your PinkNotes® client.
* Locate and Right-Click the PinkNotes® System Tray icon (located near your computer's clock)
* Select "About PinkNotes® Plus"
* Find the "Master Address" field.
* This field contains your Master IP Address

Your IP Address may look like any of the following: 192.168.1.5, pnp.myoffice.com, Computer15, SERVER01, or Bob. Don't be concerned about that, and record your Master IP Address.

Now, open up a web browser like Internet Explorer, or FireFox. Enter the Master IP Address you recorded into the address bar located on the top of your web browser and hit enter.

If you see a PinkNotes® login screen, you have successfully connected to the Master. You can now login using your normal PinkNotes® username and password. You're done with this tip!

If you do not see the PinkNotes® login screen, there may be several causes.

Here are some things to check:

* Are you able to login from the PinkNotes® Client software on that computer? If not, we suggest addressing that problem before trying to get your web server up and running. Please search the forums or contact us directly for support.

* Is port 80 open on your Master computer? Port 80 is the standard port which web data is transmitted. By default, the PinkNotes® web server uses port 80.

Check the master computer to be sure the Windows Firewall (located in the Control Panel) has an exception set for port 80. If you want to go one step further, you can set an exception for the PinkNotes® Master application file to allowing the PinkNotes® system to function completely.

Be sure to check that the Master computer doesn't have any Virus software running that may cause the port to become blocked. If you do, try disabling the software or setting it to allow PinkNotes® to use port 80.

Also, if your Master computer is a server of some other kind, there is a chance that there is a port conflict between PinkNotes® and some other software. Simply put, the programs are fighting over the port. If this is the case, we suggest changing the port that the PinkNotes® Master web server runs on. (Instructions: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=5)

* Are you outside of the network you normally login from? If that is the case, you need to login to your normal network's Public IP Address. Please see the following thread for instruction on how to setup your network to allow public access: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=6
